Brinda is an accomplished vocalist in the Carnatic or South Indian classical tradition, but her versatility of approach and her grasp of contemporary music means that she’s able to pull off, impressively, popular and experimental styles in Indian music – both as a performer and as a composer. Her versatility is evidence not only of talent, but of insight, training, and thought: because combining genres with effortlessness and ease is anything but easy from the point of view of discipline and practice. It’s not surprising that she is successful in music pedagogy. Brinda is also an excellent violinist in the Carnatic tradition. This is an added dimension – and an uncommon one for a vocalist – that amplifies her range both as a performer and teacher.-
